RTI Reporter Law reports on the Right to Information Act, 2005

About RTI Reporter

A printed law report for one Act: the Right to Information Act, 2005. Its purpose is to make the law under the Act citable, findable and complete.

The publication

Since 2005 the Act has produced a large and uneven body of decisions. Much of it sits in Commission orders that are hard to trace and in High Court judgments reported, if at all, across general series. RTI Reporter brings that law into a single, consistently edited series.

It is a print publication. There is no online database and no digital edition: the volumes themselves are the product, made to be shelved, cited in pleadings and read alongside the bare Act.

Editorial approach

Selection

Decisions are chosen for what they decide. A Commission order is reported when it settles a point of law or practice; repetitive orders on settled points are left out.

Headnoting

Each headnote states the question and the answer the forum gave to it, in the forum's own reasoning. Editorial views are kept to separate, clearly marked notes.

Text

Judgments are reproduced as delivered. Corrections are limited to obvious typographical errors, and paragraph numbering follows the original.

Citation

How to cite RTI Reporter

Cite a decision by the volume it appears in, not by the date it was decided.

[Year]
The year of the volume, in square brackets. It is part of the reference, because volume numbers start again each year.
Vol
The volume number within that year.
RTI
The abbreviation for RTI Reporter.
Page
The page on which the report begins.
(Forum)
SC for the Supreme Court of India, CIC for the Central Information Commission, and the court's usual abbreviation for a High Court, such as Del or Bom.

To cite a particular passage, add the paragraph number of the judgment after the citation.
